2006 Mendel Malbec
92 Points
Robert Parker Jr's "The Wine Advocate", December 2008
"Purple-colored, it exhibits an impressive nose of wood smoke, tobacco, rose petal, blueberry, and black raspberry. This leads to a medium-bodied wine in which notes of cola, coffee, and caramel emerge on the palate. Elegantly styled, with racy flavors, good balance, and a pure finish, it will evolve for 2-3 years but can be enjoyed now."

Wine Spectator, September 2008
"This is nicely layered, with warm fig sauce, mocha, crushed raspberry and boysenberry fruit and a long, dark, spice and espresso-tinged finish. Powerful, but balanced. Should age nicely too."

Robert Parker Jr's "The Wine Advocate", December, 2007
"The 2005 Malbec was sourced from a 77 year old ungrafted vineyard, and aged for 12 months in 40% new French oak. It is opaque purple-colored with aromas of smoke, toast, violets, and black raspberry. Supple, ripe, and layered, it is firmly structured with well-concealed tannins. It will evolve for 3 - 5 years and drink well through 2025."

"A dark, juicy style, showing lots of briar, toast and fig flavors, with the briary edge winning out on the finish."

Wine & Spirits, June 2007
"Crafted by Roberto de la Mota, the former winemaker at Terrazas de los Andes, this malbec feels made for winter nights by the fireplace. It's chocolately and full of dark cherry flavor, its firm structure needing time in the bottle of something meaty, like lamb roasted with rosemary."

Wine Spectator, November 2006
"Packed with layers of crushed plum and boysenberry fruit with exotic spice notes, this richly textured wine is carried by fresh acidity to the long, dark finish."
